COVID Response Report 2020-21

2020 presented CCPF with many challenging situations but also many silver linings. This past year, the Foundation’s commitment to care for the children remained at the forefront of our efforts. Despite the odds of working in China, we are pleased to report our accomplishments and the impact of our endeavors, thanks to your generous support.

Responding to the Coronavirus

Our team in the U.S. has been in constant contact with our Chinese orphanage and hospital colleagues throughout the crisis and remains available to help in any way possible.

CCPF volunteer China Medical Director, Dr. David Roye, has been in China full-time since the end of February 2020. He is staying on the ground to assist with pediatric orthopedic patients and will be following-up with children who had surgery on our previous medical trips, as well as reaching out to patients slated for future screenings.

We are equally concerned about all CCPF volunteers on the U.S. side. Most of them are located in the tri-state area and are on the frontlines. One of our China Advisory members donated 1,300 surgical and N95 masks to New York Presbyterian Hospital, where a number of our volunteers work.

The impact of CCPF programs expands

CCPF’s family is growing with each medical trip. An exciting addition is CCPF Fellow Dr. Gu, pediatric thoracic cardiologist from Jiangsu People’s Hospital. During our Nanjing surgical trip in April 2019, he led the charge among a group of Chinese surgeons to donate their time and skills. He performed 5 free operations and also recruited an ophthalmologist who was able to correct the vision of an orphan.
